Late goal lift Cats in opener

The Saddleback women's soccer season got off to an exciting start to the 2024 season with a 1-0 victory at MiraCosta College on Friday in Oceanside.  The Bobcats scored in the final five minutes to nip the Spartans and start the season with a win.

Saddleback has a lot of new faces in 2024 and some wondered how they would look with all of the turnover to graduation during the offseason.  The Bobcats and Spartans played even through 85 before Saddleback struck for a goal to stun the home crowd.

Allison Lozano took a pass from Jinan Said and slid it past the MiraCosta keeper to break the stalemate.  It was the first collegiate goal for the La Serna High School grad and came at an opportune time.

Saddleback and MiraCosta played fairly even throughout.  The Bobcats had a solid performance in goal from Dublin Synnott, who kept Saddleback in the game by turning aside a handful of good scoring opportunities for the Spartans.  Synnott (pictured below) finished with five saves for the game to pick up her first win of the season, including one that she deflected off the crossbar in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.

Saddleback is now 1-0 following the win.  The Bobcats will host Pasadena City College on Tuesday, September 3, in the 2024 season home-opener.  The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.
