Mt. SAC Women’s Soccer Team Battles Hard in Season Opener, Falls Short to College of Southern Nevada

Women's Soccer player takes a shot on goal.

The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team opened their 2024 season at home with a high-scoring match against the College of Southern Nevada, falling narrowly by a score of 3-4.

The Coyotes took an early lead with a goal in the 10th minute and added to their advantage with a second goal in the 48th minute. But two minutes later, the Mounties responded with a goal from sophomore Brianna Bernal, assisted by freshman Samantha Sanchez.

Bernal's second goal, scored in the 66th minute off an assist from freshman Kyla Bavaro, tied the game and shifted the momentum in favor of Mt. SAC.

The Mounties took the lead in the 75th minute with a long range shot from Samantha Sanchez. Unfortunately, Southern Nevada responded with the equalizing goal three minutes later and then went on to secure the win with a fourth goal in the 79th minute.

The Mounties pushed their opponent for the remaining 10 minutes plus stoppage time, but their effort fell short in the end.

Coach Sanchez reflected on the match saying, "Although this evening's outcome was disappointing, it is the first match of a long season. We will learn and grow from this experience, which will help us prepare for the next match on Sunday."

The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team will have a day to recover before taking on Delta College at home Sunday, August 25, at 10 AM.
