Pirates pick up 90-82 road win at Riverside

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team went on the road and picked up a 90-82 victory over Riverside City College on Friday night, snapping the Pirates' losing streak.

The key to victory for the Pirates was their defensive pressure which forced Riverside into 27 turnovers. Coast outscored the Tigers 29-16 in the points off turnovers category and off the bench, it was a 37-19 edge in scoring for OCC.

Ronnie Davis led Coast with 29 points to go along with seven rebounds. Four other Pirates hit double figures, including Chris Obiajulu (15 points, 10 rebounds), Julian Daaboul (12 points), Jay Fromm (11 points) and Michael Carabine (10 points).

Christian Warren led RCC with 20 points and 17 rebounds, while Tyson Thornton tossed in 19.

It was a close game throughout, but, with Coast ahead 62-56, a 7-0 run midway through the second half gave Coast a 69-56 lead. Riverside pulled to within four at 81-77 with 1:30 remaining in the game, but Davis and Daaboul hit five straight free throws to pad the lead back up to nine with under a minute remaining.

Coast will return to action on Wednesday inside the Peterson Gym against Cypress College, beginning at 7 p.m.
