No. 16 Renegades advance with 3-1 playoff win over MPC, travel to No. 1 Fresno for second-round match

FREMONT – Hannah Issenmann totaled 17 kills to help lead No. 16-seed Ohlone College to a 3-1 win over No. 17 Monterey Peninsula College on Saturday in an opening-round match of the Northern California Regional Playoffs.

The Renegades overcame a third-set loss to take the match by scores of 25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-16.

Issenmann hit .429 for the match, connecting for kills on 17 of her 35 attempts with just 2 errors. Avery Bland added 9 kills and Kara Mathews had 6 kills.

Also for Ohlone, Savannah Le totaled 5 kills and 15 digs, Kaylie Gomes posted 19 digs, and Ruby Santos had 27 assists, 8 digs, and 3 aces.

The Renegades, making their first postseason appearance since 2021, will now have the big task of traveling to No. 1 seed Fresno City College for a second-round match on Tuesday (Nov. 26) at 6 p.m.

Top-seeded Fresno had a first-round bye. The Rams enter the playoffs with a 26-4 overall record and are currently riding a 19-match winning streak.

Ohlone and Fresno will be meeting for the first time this season. Two more wins are needed by the Renegades to advance to the 3C2A State Championships on Dec. 6-8 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
