Warriors Sweep L.A. Harbor

TORRANCE, Calif. --- The El Camino College defense covered a lot of ground on Friday night in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15) South Coast Conference victory over L.A. Harbor at the ECC Gym Complex.
The Warriors tallied 67 digs as a team, the second most they've recorded this season and the third time they have recorded more than 60 digs in a match. Four players recorded double-digit digs with Scheala Nielsen and Erica Griffiths both logging 15.
Nielsen also logged 10 kills to lead the team and record her third double-double of the season while Griffiths had her fifth double-double of the season as she dished out 13 assists.
Perla Lopez also logged a double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs and Maddie Gloria was one assist shy of her own double-double with 10 digs and nine assists.
For the Seahawks, Kayla Fierro led the team with eight kills while Laila Jackson and Anna Katsevich added five apiece in the loss.
Although the Warriors took care of business in three sets, the win was not easy. In the first set, the Seahawks jumped out to a 5-1 lead. After the Warriors trimmed it to 5-4, the Seahawks regained the upper hand and led 10-5.
But the Warriors scored 10 of the next 13 points to take a 15-13 lead and, after the Seahawks tied things up at 17-17, the Warriors closed the game on an 8-1 run to claim the opening set.
The second set featured nine ties and five lead changes but the Warriors posted their best offensive and defensive set of the night, attacking at a .317 clip while recording 27 digs. Yasmine Itani recorded all of her career-high six kills in the second set while Nielsen recorded five. The teams were tied at 14-14 but ECC rattled off 11 of the last 14 points to take a 2-0 lead.
The Warriors put the Seahawks away in the third early, jumping out to an 8-3 lead and then used an 8-0 run to turn a 10-5 lead into a comfortable 13-point advantage and they never looked back.
The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday with a road match against Mount San Antonio.
