City Wins 6th Straight to Stay Undefeated in PCAC
San Diego City overcame a poor shooting night to extend its win streak to six after earning a 55-43 home victory over Miramar on Friday night. Marley Gonzalez led City with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four steals to help the Knights stay undefeated (5-0) in the PCAC.

Kenny Gonzalez was the only other Knight to reach double figures with 15 points, including 2-of-3 from 3-point territory.
The Knights (13-4, 5-0 PCAC) scored the first eight points of the game and held Miramar (6-12, 1-5 PCAC) scoreless for the first seven minutes of the first half, but the Jets battled back and kept the game close.
With City holding a 4-point lead in the final seconds of the first half, Kenny Gonzalez nailed a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from 30 feet out to give the Knights a 26-19 halftime lead.
On City's first possession of the second half, Brandon Bento-Jackson had the ball with the shot clock running down and threw up a desperation 3 from 25 feet that hit nothing but net to push City's lead to 10.
The Knights' lead grew to as many as 14 early in the second half, but the Jets, led by Malik Homayed's 17 points, chipped away and got to within four on a couple occasions.
City countered with a Marley Gonzalez layup, a pair of free throws by Reid Celestin, and another layup by Gonzalez to regain a 10-point lead with 5:24 left.
Marley Gonzalez ended up scoring eight points in the final 6:45 to help the Knights pull away for the win and stay in a first place tie with Palomar.
Next up for the Knights is a an important road game at MiraCosta on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. The Spartans sit right behind the Knights in the conference standings with a 4-1 record (11-6 overall).
It is the first game of a tough stretch for the Knights as they will also face Southwestern (11-6, 4-1 PCAC) at home on Jan. 17 and will head to San Marcos to play Palomar (12-5, 5-0 PCAC) on Jan. 22.
