With two matches remaining in the conference season, the Knights moved one step closer to a possible PCAC championship by defeating Southwestern, 8-1, on Tuesday to remain in a first place tie with Mt. San Jacinto.
Sinaia Haskal did not lose a game in either singles or doubles action against Southwestern. Haskal, City's No. 1 in both singles and doubles, teamed up with Anya Villanueva to beat SWC's Neddah Nourbaksh and Dyna Monsalud, 8-0. Haskal then defeated Nourbaksh, 6-0 and 6-0, in singles.
The No. 2 doubles team of Jessica Hoffpauir and Lucia Farmer got past Southwestern's Katrina Pacheco and Samantha Contreras with an 8-2 win.
Farmer then cruised to a 6-0 and 6-0 win over Monsalud in No. 2 singles, while Hoffpauir fell, 6-2 and 6-1, to Contreras in No. 3 singles.
Satrya edged out Southwestern's Evelyn Potter in a 7-6, 7-6, 4-0 tiebreak in No. 5 singles.
Arleen Torres, who lost her No. 3 doubles match along with Satrya, responded with a 6-2 and 6-4 victory over SWC's Linda Castaneda in No. 6 singles.
In all likelihood, Thursday's match against Mt. San Jacinto may end up deciding the PCAC championship. The winner will take sole possession of first place with one match remaining.
The Knights play at Grossmont on March 26 in the season finale, while Mt. San Jacinto is home vs. Southwestern, also on the 26th.
