
Pirates go 3-1 at RCC tournament
RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team won three of four matches over this past weekend, topping Saddleback (10-7), Citrus (9-4) and Crafton Hills (19-7), while falling to Santa Barbara (12-6) at the Riverside City College Tournament.
In the opener against the Bobcats, the Pirates (8-6) used a strong start to the third quarter to turn a 4-3 halftime lead into a 7-3 advantage, thanks to goals from Emma Willis, Rhoslyn Contreras and Ella Sweeney.
Saddleback scored back-to-back goals to make it 7-5 before Coast responded with back-to-back goals of its own from Faye Garcia and Hayden Clark.
Sweeney finished with three goals to lead the way for OCC, while in goal, Emily Jones notched seven saves to preserve the win.
Following the loss to SBCC, Coast bounced back with a pair of wins on Saturday. In the victory over Citrus, Garcia, Willis, Sweeney and Paola Barajas each had two goals, while Tatum Rogers added a single tally. In goal, Jones again was strong with seven saves.
In the finale against Crafton Hills, Coast scored the first eight goals of the contest against the Yucaipa-based Roadrunners and never looked back.
Abi Patterson led OCC with five goals, while Natalia Perez added three. Rogers and Emma Cramer each tossed in a pair of goals, while goalkeeper Mia Gonzalez notched 12 saves for the win.
The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2 against Saddleback, beginning at 3 p.m.
