SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Kaylee Bosetti scored a season-high 22 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Santa Barbara City College (7-2) to an 84-53 win over the Fighting Cacti of Copper Mountain College.

The Vaqueros jumped out to an early 23-12 lead after the first period, thanks in part to Kenedy Nutter hitting a pair of threes. Santa Barbara maintained its advantage, heading into halftime with a score of 41-30.

"It was a nice team victory after losing a heartbreaker the night before to Antelope Valley College," said head coach Sandrine Krul. "Our entire team was locked in from the first quarter to the fourth quarter." In the second half, the Vaqueros extended their lead with solid contributions from the entire roster. By the end of the contest, 12 of 14 players for Santa Barbara scored. Coach Krul was thrilled with her squad's group effort: "Anytime we have 12 of 14 players scoring is a great team victory. We always preach our motto: teamwork." Mariia Shtykova paced the scoring off the bench with eight points.

Isis Poteet contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds (9 offensive) for her third straight double-double and fourth of the season. She also added five assists to her total. The Vaqueros outrebounded the Fighting Cacti 45-26 and 19-6 on the offensive glass. Amarisse Camargo filled her stat line with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, four steals, and a block. The Vaqueros moved the ball around, recording 24 assists, and played stout defense, stealing the ball 17 times. "Copper Mountain has very fast guards, and to be able to press them and create steals was a huge momentum builder for us," said Krul. Kaylee Lawson led the team with five steals.

While the defense was a major contributor to the win, ball security was just as crucial, with the Vaqueros allowing just 17 turnovers. "We hit our goal of only 17 turnovers," said Krul. "Our goal is always to have only 15 to 18 turnovers in a game."

The Vaqueros will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 16, when they take on Santa Ana College at the El Camino College Christmas Crossover.
