Volleyball Falls to Los Medanos and Taft in Opening Matches at LMC Tri

Pittsburgh - The Folsom Lake College Falcons began their 2024 volleyball season with a challenging start at the Los Medanos College Tri in Pittsburgh, CA, facing off against host team Los Medanos and later Taft in two non-conference matchups. The Falcons were unable to secure a win, falling in both contests.

In their season opener against Los Medanos, the Falcons showed promise but ultimately fell 3-1. The first set was competitive, with Folsom Lake pushing hard but losing 25-22. The second set proved more difficult as the Falcons struggled with their attack, hitting a negative percentage (-.053) due to several errors, and lost 25-16.

The team rallied in the third set, with standout performances from Kira Comfort and Jenae Moore, who combined for 19 kills, leading the Falcons to a 25-23 victory. Despite their improved performance, the fourth set was a close contest. The Falcons fought hard, but ultimately lost 28-26, sealing the match for Los Medanos.

Los Medanos' balanced attack was led by Maddie Krause and Brooke Slous, who contributed 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Krause also made significant defensive contributions with 16 digs and 4 solo blocks.

In their second match of the day, Folsom Lake faced Taft and struggled to find their footing, falling 3-0. The Falcons were unable to match Taft's intensity, losing the first set 25-13. They showed improvement in the second set, but still fell short, 25-22. The third set saw a stronger performance from the Falcons, with key contributions from Kimora McKechnie and Erin Ayers, but Taft closed out the set 25-23 to complete the sweep.

Taft's Natalie Castillo and Grace Witcher led their team with impressive performances, Castillo recording 11 kills with a .588 hitting percentage and Witcher adding 10 kills and 14 digs.
