
The Giants go 3-1 This Week
The Giants had two series this week with Bakersfield College and Ohlone College.
They opened with Bakersfield on Thursday, February 22 for a doubleheader. In game 1, they fell behind early when Bailee Bustos (Mission Oak HS) gave up a run in the first inning. They then tied and took the lead as Emily Ibarra hit a RBI single and Bustos' RBI double in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Bakersfield scored two runs in the top of the 5th on a 2-R triple, making it a 3-2 game heading into the bottom of the 5th. The Giants answered it with a 2-R single by Bailee Bustos and making it a 4-3 win. Bustos also had an outstanding game on the mound as she gave up 3 hits and had 7 strikeouts. In game 2 of the doubleheader, the COS Giants lost 1-0. Ibarra and Kristina Nunes had performances at the plate as Ibarra went 1-for-1 with 1 hit, 3 walks, and 2 stolen bases and Nunes went 1-for-3 with 1 hit and 1 stolen base.
In the second series of the week, the Giants took on Ohlone College on Saturday. Starting on the mound in game 1 was Bailee Bustos, as she pitched a 1-hitter, had 9 strikeouts and shutout the Ohlone Renegades. Grace Chojnacki (Mission Oak HS) had a great day at the plate as she went 2-for-3 for a 2-R double. In game 2 of the series, it was a back-and-forth game. Ohlone had a 3-0 lead after 2 innings. COS answered with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd as Aislynn Ortiz reached first on an error, which scored 2 runs, making it a 3-2 deficit. It stayed 3-2 until the bottom of the 6th inning, when Nunes hit an RBI single to tie the game. Ibarra followed up with an RBI single immediately after. Bustos came in relief on the mound in the second inning and allowed 2 hits and 0 runs, which gives her 7 wins on the season.
Coming up this week, the Giants will host Siskiyous on Thursday, February 29 at 11 am and play Merced at 2 pm.
