Falcons Show Heart but Fall to Wolverines' Offensive Onslaught
The Folsom Lake College Falcons fought valiantly at home on January 9, but they couldn't withstand a dominant performance from Sierra College, falling 108-71 in a high-paced conference matchup.
The Falcons showcased flashes of brilliance, particularly from standout forward Miko Bear, who poured in a team-high 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting while adding 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Guard Logan Rexford contributed 11 points, using his quick release to drain a three-pointer, and Mikey Simonyan matched his scoring output with 11 points while pulling down 7 rebounds. Despite the strong efforts, the Falcons struggled to match Sierra's depth and efficiency.
The game began with energy from the home crowd at Falcon Gymnasium, and the Falcons stayed within striking distance early in the first half. However, Sierra's defensive pressure and rebounding dominance (51 boards to Folsom Lake's 27) gradually tilted the momentum. Despite trailing 48-35 at halftime, the Falcons came out of the locker room determined, but Sierra's offensive firepower overwhelmed them, with the Wolverines scoring 60 second-half points to close the game decisively.
Folsom Lake's bright spots included contributions from Kendrick Burks, who came off the bench to score 12 points and grab 6 rebounds in an energetic performance. Freshman Tanay Shah added 8 points in just 12 minutes of play, showing promise as a key rotation player moving forward.
"We're seeing progress in our guys' effort and execution," said Falcons Head Coach Bill Benford. "But Sierra is a tough team, and tonight, their experience and depth showed. We'll take this as a learning opportunity and continue to improve."
Despite the lopsided score, the Falcons' resolve was evident throughout the game, a testament to the team's growth and potential as the season progresses. Fans can take pride in the grit shown by players like Bear and Rexford, who continue to lead by example on and off the court.
