Rio Hondo College couldn't hold a narrow one-run, seventh-inning lead at lost 2-1 at Cerritos College on Saturday to wrap up a two-game South Coast Conference series.

The Roadrunners, now 9-5 overall and 1-1 in SCC play, next face Los Angeles Harbor College in a two-game conference series that opens on Tuesday (Mar. 7) in Whittier at 2 p.m.

In Saturday's contest, Rio Hondo scored its lone run in the top of the third thanks to a Cerritos error. Gabe Chavez led off the frame with a single and came all the way around to score after a two-base throwing error on Danny Marquez' sacrifice bunt attempt.

Rio Hondo starting pitcher Isaiah Ramos was cruising as he held the Falcons scoreless until the seventh. Ramos scattered four hits over the first six innings before a pair of singles, an error, a passed ball, and a balk led to two unearned runs. Cerritos scored the eventual game-winner on a one-out suicide squeeze bunt.

Ramos struck out seven but took the loss after allowing two runs and six hits over 6+ innings. Cesar Sandoval went 2 for 3 to lead Rio Hondo at the plate.
