Cypress Chargers Water Polo Teams Host Successful Tournament Weekend
Cypress Water Polo Teams Shine in Home Tournament with Dominant Performances
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers men's and women's water polo teams hosted an action-packed tournament on the weekend of September 6-7, securing several key victories while showcasing their depth and competitive spirit.
Men's Water Polo
The men's team dominated the pool, going 3-1 over the two-day event. The Chargers opened the tournament on Friday with an 18-10 victory over Citrus College, led by standout performances from Porter Rosenlof with 7 goals and 4 assists, and Wes Brazada contributing 4 goals and 3 assists. Later in the day, they defeated Santa Monica 24-7, with Rosenlof and James Luther each tallying 6 goals, and Kai Banua adding another 7.
On Saturday, the Chargers continued their offensive power, routing Southwestern College 24-6. Brazada and Banua both contributed 7 goals each, while Josh Reed added 4 goals. However, Cypress fell short in their final game, narrowly losing 11-10 to Whittier College in a hard-fought battle, despite a 3-goal performance from Rosenlof and strong goaltending from Zach Populous, who made 14 saves.
Women's Water Polo
The women's team was equally impressive on the first day, posting dominant wins on Friday. They cruised to a 22-3 victory against Santa Monica, with Karly Lepel leading the team with 5 goals. In their second match of the day, the Chargers continued their strong play, defeating Southwestern College 21-7, as Lepel contributed another 8 goals, supported by an all-around effort from the team.
On Saturday, the Chargers faced a tough opponent in conference rival Saddleback College and were handed their first loss of the tournament, falling 18-11. Jillian Van Gemert put up 4 goals, while Hayley Bradshaw added 3 in the effort.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will open conference-play against Riverside City College at home on Wednesday, September 11. Women at 3:00 pm and Men follow with a 4:15 pm start time.
