Sammy Velasquez has 24 points in 71-56 win for GCC WBB over L.A. Valley Jan. 22; Lady Vaqs win 9th straight game to improve to 4-0 in conference and 14-3 overall
The train keeps a rolling for the GCC Women's Basketball Team as the Lady Vaqs won their 9th straight game Wednesday Jan. 22, 71-56 and were paced by freshman Sammy Velasquez with 24 points. They are now tied for first place in the WSC South at 4-0 and are 14-3 overall.
 
The game high point total for Velasquez included her shooting over 50 percent from the field, 9 of 17, and the freshman hit six 3-pointers. Fellow freshman Shadel Ffrench had a massive game defensively as she had a career best seven blocks to go along with 17 rebounds as well as 14 points and two steals. Sophomore all-state selection Malia Ulery has a solid all-around game for GCC with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals and Shushan Krikorian added nine points, five rebounds and five assists.
 
Glendale hosts Antelope Valley College in a battle for first place in the WSC South at 3 pm Saturday Jan. 25 as both teams have 4-0 conference marks.
