Women's Water Polo defeat ARC, 10-7 in first conference win
Diablo Valley College women's water polo team earned a solid 10-7 victory over American River at home.
The Vikings took an early lead and maintained control throughout the match, thanks to strong offensive performances from key players.
Diablo Valley started off strong, with Lauryn Caguyong scoring the first goal at 6:53 in the first quarter, followed by another goal from Chloe Pappas at 5:24. Sofia Goodson added a third goal just before the end of the first quarter, giving Diablo Valley a 3-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Pappas continued her momentum, scoring two more goals with assists from Goodson.
American River responded with two goals in the final minute of the quarter, bringing the halftime score to 5-2 in favor of Diablo Valley.
The third quarter saw Diablo Valley extend their lead as Olivia Sanchez, Pappas, and Goodson added four more goals to the scoreboard.
However, American River fought back with four goals of their own, closing the gap to 9-6 by the end of the quarter.
Goodson secured Diablo Valley's final goal early in the fourth quarter, and despite a late goal by American River's Amber Inderkum, the Vikings held on for a 10-7 win.
Chloe Pappas and Sofia Goodson led the Vikings' offense, each scoring four goals, while Goodson also contributed two assists.
Olivia Sanchez added a goal and two steals to help solidify the team's defense.
Goalkeeper Sequoia CosgroveLane was instrumental with 10 saves.
With this victory, Diablo Valley continues to build momentum as they move through their season in the Big 8 Conference.
