In a brutal battle befitting one of the top rivalries in community college soccer, the West Valley men's soccer team shutout De Anza 3-0 Tuesday afternoon at De Anza. The battle for first place in the Coast-South featured seven yellow cards and was scoreless until Alexis Rincon booted in his 10th goal of the year off a Rodolfo Castro helper at 21'. Leo Fernandez scored his fourth of the season two minutes later on a Rincon assist. Sam Ludley put it away in the 71st minute with his first goal of 2018 off a Castro pass. GK Yannick Lamers stopped all four Don shots to record his fourth clean sheet of the season. West Valley (9-1-1, 5-0-0 Coast) sits atop the Coast standings ahead of Skyline (6-2-1, 4-0-1) and De Anza (9-2-1, 3-1-1). The Vikings travel to Foothill (3-5-2, 1-2-1) Friday (10/12) for a 4pm clash with the Owls.
