WHITTIER – Rio Hondo College sophomore Isabel Maldonado exchanged her goalkeeper jersey to play the field and had a huge game in helping lead the Roadrunners to a 5-0 win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday.
Maldonado posted a hat trick, scoring three goals while earning an assist on another, in Rio Hondo's South Coast Conference interdivision victory.
Maldonado got the Roadrunners on the board with a goal in the first half then scored twice over the final 45 minutes. Clarissa Gamboa also had an impressive game, knocking in a goal while picking up 2 assists.
Nayeli Alvarez closed out the scoring for Rio Hondo with her late goal. Raechel Guillen was also credited with an assist.
In goal, Marleen Cabrera posted 7 saves to record the Roadrunners' first shutout of the season.
Rio Hondo improved to 2-6-1 overall. The Roadrunners are back in action next Tuesday (Oct. 8) when they travel to Los Angeles City College for a 4:30 p.m. SCC crossover game.
