No. 7 Long Beach City Softball Takes Down No. 11 Cerritos, 6-3, on Women's History Month Celebration
The Vikings took down Cerritos College 6-3 on Friday afternoon.
In a special Women's History Month celebration, the state-ranked No. 7 Long Beach City College softball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a 6-3 victory over No. 11 Cerritos College on a rainy Friday afternoon. The Vikings now improve to 18-2 overall and 12-1 in South Coast Conference play.
"We went into this game wanting it even more because they got us last time," said first baseman Anaya Togia. "This time, we came out like dogs and wanted to show them what we are really about. We had each other's backs and did the simple things to get it done."
Togia was dominant at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, including a solo home run in the sixth inning that provided a key insurance run. She got the Vikings on the board early with an RBI double in the first inning and added RBI singles in the second and fourth.
Cerritos responded in the third inning, tying the game 3-3 with a bases-clearing double, but the Vikings quickly regained the lead and never looked back. Left fielder Sienna Rievley's RBI single in the fifth inning extended the advantage, and Togia's home run sealed the win.
"Today's game was a testament to the work this team puts in and the fight we have in us," said pitcher Hailey Harris, who earned her 10th win of the season. "I love going to war with these girls and have full confidence in us every time we step on the field."
Harris was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete game with nine strikeouts while allowing just three earned runs on seven hits.
"What a beautiful Women's Day celebration our college put on," said Director of Softball Operations and Head Coach Megan Martinez. "Seeing so many influential women from campus was so fun to be a part of! I am super proud of the resilience our team continues to show."
The Vikings will look to keep their momentum going as they travel to Chaffey College on Monday, March 17 at 2:30 p.m.
