The Long Beach City College women's soccer team defeated the College of the Desert Roadrunners 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
"I thought the girls did a great job managing the game, especially with the amount of time we had on the ball," said Head Coach Tino Nunez. "We executed well through our combination play and breaking them down. I'm excited for what's to come—getting a clean sheet and scoring multiple goals was a great performance by the team today."
Midfielder Laura Vasquez opened the scoring for the Vikings with a well-placed goal, assisted by forward Lorena Moreno, right in front of the net, giving the team a 1-0 lead going into halftime against the Roadrunners.
After the break, midfielder Sydney Trump doubled the lead with a powerful strike, assisted by Vasquez, pushing the Vikings ahead 2-0. The Vikings dominated offensively, firing 17 shots throughout the match. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Jackie Garibay stood strong, making two key saves to preserve the shutout.
The Vikings return to action on Friday, Sept. 27, with an away match at Norco College, kicking off at 4 p.m.
