COS Dominates Lemoore with Second-Half Surge, Secures 3-0 Victory
LEMOORE, CA – College of the Sequoias women's soccer team put on a second-half showcase, securing a decisive 3-0 win over Lemoore College on Friday, October 25. The Giants notched another shutout with a commanding performance that improved their Central Valley Conference record to 3-3-3 and 5-5-4 overall.
The match started as a defensive battle, with neither team managing to break through in the first half despite the Giants' persistent offensive efforts. Head coach Brooklyn Morris emphasized patience to her squad, and to capitalize on quality opportunities as the game continued. "We knew we had to stay composed and find the right moments to strike," Morris said. "Once we got the first goal, it opened up the game for us."
The breakthrough came just minutes after halftime. In the 49th minute, Lynea Rivera found the back of the net following a well-placed assist from Amber Cole, putting Sequoias up 1-0 and shifting the momentum to COS. With the lead, the Giants began to press Lemoore's defense even more aggressively, creating multiple chances and keeping the pressure on.
Amber Cole (Lemoore HS) continued to play a pivotal role, delivering her second assist of the match in the 69th minute as Jocelyn Arellano (Redwood HS) finished the play, which extended the lead to 2-0. "We kept our composure under pressure and that is what we needed to push ahead."
COS sealed the victory just four minutes later, in the 73rd minute, when Jimena Rivera (Golden West HS) capitalized on a plenty kick to add another goal, making it 3-0. Rivera's strike continued the Giants' dominant second-half performance and secured the conference victory.
The Giants' defense held strong throughout the match, with goalkeeper Haylie Brasil (Manteca HS) delivering another stellar performance. Brasil recorded three saves to ensure the clean sheet, supported by a backline that denied Lemoore any clear chances. "Our defense was very disciplined again, and Haylie [Brasil] was a key factor in keeping them off the board," Morris noted. "This kind of defensive consistency is what we're looking to build on as we head into the final stretch of conference play."
The Giants' disciplined play, both offensively and defensively, allowed them to control the pace and dictate the game's direction in the latter half, giving them another valuable CVC win.
