Bakersfield Rallies to Earn 1-1 Draw Against Sequoias

BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 13, 2024) - In a hard-fought match at home, the Bakersfield College women's soccer team secured a 1-1 draw against College of the Sequoias. After falling behind early, the Renegades battled back in the second half to even the score and salvaged a point.

Sequoias struck quickly, scoring just 51 seconds into the match. Despite numerous attempts, the Renegades struggled to break through Sequoias' defense, and the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

Bakersfield fired in the second half, determined to find the equalizer. Their persistence paid off in the 49th minute when freshman Alexis Juarez scored an unassisted goal to level the match at 1-1. The Renegades continued to apply pressure, creating several scoring opportunities, but Sequoia's goalkeeper made key saves to keep the game tied.

Bakersfield outshot Sequoias 12-9, with seven shots on goal compared to Sequoias' four. BC's goalkeeper, Mercedes Ramirez, also made crucial saves throughout the match, ensuring the visitors could not regain their lead.

With the draw, the Renegades are now 2-1-1 in the early season and will play two home matches next week. Santiago Canyon will visit for a 4:30 PM match on September 17th, followed by Ventura College on Friday, September 20th, at 1:30 PM.
