GCC Softball wins one of four games last week, is now 6-4 this season
The Glendale College Vaqueros split their first two games of four scheduled dropping a 8-0 decision to the reigning Western State Conference Northern Division Champion Raiders of Moorpark on February 18 and soundly defeated the host Corsairs of Santa Monica 18-0 on February 20.

Annaliese Ruiz made her outfielder debut in center against SMC, when fellow freshman Valerie Juarez got the start in circle through the first two innings. Ruiz and Juarez combined for four innings pitched, allowing only two hits - while striking out three batters. Both of them also each had a run batted in, scored a run and reached base via a walk. Gabby Martinez-Nerio pitched her fourth straight scoreless appearance in the fifth inning to close it out. Ruiz improved to 5-1 on the season.

Sophomore shortstop Tati Pisa led the offensive attack for the Vaqs, by going two for three with three runs scored, three runs driven in as well as walked twice and had one stolen base. Catarina Anzalone also finished with two hits, three runs scored, one RBI and walked once. Jeyslen Orial and Nazzelli Zohrabian had great plate discipline combining for six of Glendale's 16 walks they were given. Emma Mendoza scored two runs, stole two bases as well as had a hit and drove home a run. Taylor Bangs registered her first hit of the season as well as scored once and walked once.

Unfortunately, the Vaqueros couldn't continue the week with those same results as SMC as they dropped a doubleheader in San Diego to the Southwestern College Jaguars 12-2 and 10-2 on February 22. Glendale will next be in action on Tuesday, February 25 against host Golden West Rustlers (2pm); back at home on Thursday, February 27 against San Bernardino Valley (2:30) and will finish the week with a doubleheader at home against College of the Desert on Saturday, March 1 beginning at 12pm with the second game scheduled to start 30 minutes after. All home games at the Glendale Sports Complex are scheduled to be live-streamed on the GCC VAQS Athletics YouTube Channel.
