No. 6 Canyons Concludes Regular Season by Topping AVC in 52-49 Win
Sophomore forward Hannah Green posted her second triple-double of the season with 13 points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocks — all team highs.
The No. 6 College of the Canyons women's basketball team finished the regular season with a 52-49 victory over visiting Antelope Valley College.
Canyons (23-5, 13-1 WSC) started off the game slow and trailed by three at the half, but found an offensive rhythm in the second half to help put away the visiting Marauders.
The Lady Cougars were led by sophomore forward Hannah Green who posted her second triple-double of the season with 13 points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocks — all team highs.
Sophomore forward Monica Friedl added 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks with two assists.
COC freshman guard Cierra O'Brien had 12 points and two assists.
Freshman Marina Rojas came up with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and a team-high three steals.
Prior to the game head coach Greg Herrick honored the team's six sophomore players — Friedl, Green, Hhala Hosn, Brittany Martin, Vikki Martinez and Tamara Smith — as a thank you for their participation with the program and contributions they have made during their COC career.
The women's basketball team will now head to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs. The CCCAA playoffs begin Wednesday, Feb. 24, with the Lady Cougars still awaiting their seeding.
