Baseball: Roadrunners cruise to 10-1 win at San Bernardino

Nick Ybarra went 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI while starting pitcher Jake Gaudet tossed five scoreless innings to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 10-1 non-conference win at San Bernardino Valley College on Monday.

The win improved to Roadrunners to 6-2 overall while former Foothill Conference rival SBVC dropped to 0-9.

Rio Hondo scored four runs in the third to get the rout started. Ybarra's RBI double plated Alex Rodriguez to start the rally before R.J. Romo delivered a two-run double that drove in Ybarra and Gabe Chavez. Tony Rosario's run-scoring single brought home Romo to close out the inning.

Rio Hondo blew the game open with five runs in the sixth, including two-run singles by Ybarra and Chavez. A San Bernardino Valley error led to the Roadrunners' final run in the seventh.

Gaudet evened his record at 1-1 after allowing no runs and five hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked two. Keanu Herrera and Edmundo Fernandez threw consecutive scoreless innings in relief while Andrew Quillen closed out the win by pitching the final two innings with five strikeouts.

Up next for Rio Hondo, the Roadrunners will host Victor Valley College on Tuesday (Feb. 14) in a non-conference game.
