Cougars' Streak Sits at Four After 2-0 Win Over Bakersfield

College of the Canyons pushed its conference win streak to four Friday night after a 2-0 victory over visiting Bakersfield College.
Canyons (11-4-1, 7-2-1) went ahead in the 29th minute with a goal from freshman Emma Wenz, her second of the season. Wenz was assisted by fellow freshman Bailey Williamson.
The Cougars kept the pressure up throughout the match keeping Bakersfield goalkeeper Mercedes Ramirez busy in her 90 minutes between the posts. Ramirez finished the game with 11 recorded saves on 13 shots from Canyons with the two goals against.
The second goal came in the 63rd minute of play at the hands of sophomore center-back Sofia Soler, making this her fourth of the season. Prior to this score, Soler had been active offensively recording three other shots on goal.
Bakersfield (68-3, 3-5-2) had a few chances to even the score, but Canyons goalkeeper Hayley Bench (9-3-1) handled each of the four shots, recording saves and picking up another win with the shutout effort.
Overall, the Cougars outshot the Renegades 21-6 with eight corner kicks compared to two from Bakersfield.
Currently, Canyons stands in second place in the Western State Conference, South Division standings just a game behind Santa Monica College (13-3-1, 8-1-1).
The Cougars travel to West L.A. College on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for a 3 p.m. kickoff before hosting Santa Monica on Friday, Nov. 8 for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
