The VC beach volleyball team's Kylie Ibbotson and Alba Romanos Gracia placed fifth at the 3C2A State Pairs Tournament Saturday and Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain placed ninth on the final day of the season at West Valley College in Saratoga.
Ibbotson and Romanos Gracia started the day with a huge upset, defeating the No. 1 pair from team state champion Feather River, 21-17, 21-14. They followed that up with a difficult quarterfinal loss to Moorpark's top duo, 21-14, 21-18.
Rojelio and Swain, meanwhile, became victim to the bracket as they had to face off against Santa Barbara's No. 1 pair, who had lost their first match in pool play on Friday. Despite a valiant effort, the Pirates' team dropped a 21-13, 21-12 to the Western State Conference and Southern california champions in the Round of 16.
With the competition Saturday, the Pirates ended another successful season and look forward to challenging for their third straight WSC crown and third straight trip to the state tournament in 2025.
