Baseball: Solid pitching leads to 3-1 Rio Hondo win over Allan Hancock

SANTA CLARITA – Starter Matt Leyva tossed five solid innings while Ramon Brion closed it out with four scoreless frames to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 3-1 victory over visiting Allan Hancock College on Friday in a non-conference game played at College of the Canyons.

Leyva struck out seven batters while allowing just one unearned run and four hits on his way to his second win of the season. Brion picked up his second save after giving up four hits.

Allan Hancock (4-3) led 1-0 after two innings before Rio Hondo put up single runs in the bottom of the third, fourth, and sixth innings. Adrian Soto drove in a pair of runs while Stephen Chavez was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Nolan Anguiano also had two hits for the Roadrunners.

Rio Hondo snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 4-5 overall this season. The Roadrunners are back in action on Tuesday (Feb. 16) when they play at San Bernardino Valley College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. That will be followed by a home game against SBVC on Thursday (Feb. 16), also at 2 p.m.
