Softball: Second inning dooms Rio Hondo in 10-1 loss at Barstow

Rio Hondo College had its two-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday after a 10-1 five-inning loss at Barstow College. The Foothill Conference defeat dropped the Roadrunners' record to 5-14 overall and 1-2 in the FC.

Barstow got all its offense in a 10-run, second-inning. Freshman Brenae Martinez (Santa Fe HS) took the loss after allowing eight earned runs and 10 hits over four innings. She struck out three and walked two.

Freshman Nadiya Lozano (West Covina HS) drove in sophomore Esthefany Martinez (Silverado HS) for Rio Hondo's lone run in the top of the first inning. Martinez led the Roadrunners at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a pair of stolen bases.

Rio Hondo is back in action on Thursday (Mar. 3) at 2:30 p.m. when the Roadrunners travel to Citrus College for a non-conference game.
