GCC Women's Basketball starts defense of WSC South Title with a 81-37 win over College of the Canyons Jan. 11: Lady Vaqs have won six straight games to improve to 11-3
It seems that nothing can stop the GCC Women's Basketball Team on its mission to win a sixth straight Western State Conference South Division Title. That would include game cancellations, Jan. 4 vs Cerritos College and raging winds and fires in the region that caused Glendale's home conference opener against West Los Angeles College to be postponed Jan. 8. Those delays seemed to matter little as Glendale rolled to an 81-37 win at College of the Canyons Jan. 11.

Now 11-3 overall and the winners of six straight games, the Lady Vaqs received game highs of 15 points and 12 rebounds from Shadel Ffrench and 14 points each from Malia Ulery and Shushan Krikorian. Maila Ulery also had nine assists and eight rebounds and Krikorian added five rebounds and three assists. Lisette Meza, Sammy Velasquez and Ella Costley all had eight points each and Evelyn Birau added seven points and six rebounds.

Glendale, ranked seventh in the state, hopes to continue WSC play weather permitting at Santa Monica City College at 5 pm Wednesday Jan. 15 and is scheduled to host Bakersfield College Saturday Jan.18 at 3 pm.
