BIG 8 CHAMPS! Falcons Claim Big 8 Crown with Gritty 1-0 Victory

4th Big 8 conference title in 8 years and 7th conference since the program started in 2013.

In a hard-fought Big 8 Championship match, the Folsom Lake College Falcons clinched a 1-0 victory over San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs to secure their place in the NorCal Regionals. The Falcons, now 18-1-2, demonstrated their defensive tenacity and efficient attack, prevailing in a match defined by intensity and high stakes.

Folsom Lake set the tone in the 18th minute with a decisive goal from midfielder Kamaya Yazzie, who capitalized on a precise assist from Laila Hadid. Yazzie's clinical finish past Mustangs goalkeeper Elle Hillar proved to be the match-winner, showcasing the Falcons' ability to convert limited opportunities.

The Falcons maintained offensive pressure throughout the half, outshooting San Joaquin Delta 5-2, while goalkeeper Linnea Sybersma made a critical save to preserve the lead.

The second half saw a fierce defensive stand by Folsom Lake. The Mustangs pushed for an equalizer, but the Falcons' backline, led by Hope Martin Northrup and Charlize Garaygay, denied every opportunity. Sybersma remained steady in goal, recording her second save to secure the shutout.

Discipline became a factor late in the game, with three yellow cards and a red card issued in the final 10 minutes. Folsom Lake's ability to maintain composure in the chaotic final stretch underscored their championship pedigree.

Falcons head coach praised the team's resilience:
