Roadrunners beat Chaffey 13-8, split matches in Riverside

RIVERSIDE – Sophomore Kevin Morales scored a game-high five goals to help lead the Rio Hondo College men's water polo team to a 13-8 win over Chaffey College in the first of two games played at Riverside City College on Friday.
That was followed by a tough 23-5 loss to host RCC to close out the day's action.
Rio Hondo trailed early against Chaffey but rallied back for the win.
The Panthers tallied the first two goals of the contest to go up 2-0. But the Roadrunners scored six of the next seven goals to close out the first quarter to jump out in front 6-3. Rio Hondo was able to cruise the rest of the way.
Matthew Reynoso scored three goals for Rio Hondo, all coming in the opening quarter. Josiah Torres had two goals while Roberto Castanon-Delgado, Joel Rocha, and Jacob Medrano each scored once.
Matthew Escobar posted 12 saves in goal for the Roadrunners in the win.
Rio Hondo had a difficult time matching up with Riverside in the loss. Reynoso poured in two goals with Bryan Gonzales, Rocha, and Morales each scoring one goal.
The Roadrunners moved to 3-3 overall. The squad is back in action on Wednesday (Sep. 18) when Rio Hondo opens South Coast Conference play at Cerritos College. Game time is set for 4:15 p.m.
