
The Pirate baseball team ended its 2024 campaign Saturday afternoon with a 14-2 setback at Compton College. Evan DeVally was 2-2 at the plate with a run batted in and Aaron McLeod also recorded a pair of hits. Peter Dufau had an RBI while David King and Bryce Elias each scored runs in the season finale.
Ventura got off to a good start with a run in the top of the first. King led off with a single and Haiden Letzing walked before Dylan Jackson moved King to third with a fly ball out and Dufau hit a sacrifice fly to give VC the early edge.
Unfortunately, the Tartars evened the score with a run in the bottom of the first and scored three more runs in the second and one in the third for a 5-1 advantage.
The Pirates came back with another run in the fourth. Elias hit a one-out single with Ben Drumheller on first. As Drumheller was thrown out at third, Elias advanced to scoring position allowing DeVally to hit an RBI single to close the gap to 5-2.
Compton took complete control of the game with a five-run fifth inning en route to defeating the Pirates 14-2.
VC ends the 2024 campaign with, the first for head coach David Soliz, with a 19-19 record.
