BC Splits Matches in Season Opener hosting the BC Quad

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's volleyball team opened up their season hosting four teams for their annual BC Quad tournament. In attendance were Santa Barbara City College, Mt. San Antonio, and El Camino College. The Renegades played Mt. SAC (Mounties) and El Camino (Warriors) for their two matches of the day on August 24th at the Gil Bishop Sports Center and split the decision.

The Mounties took the first match over BC, winning in straight sets with scores of 27-25, 25-20, and 25-18.

Highlights:

  • Stevie Yursik was the standout for Bakersfield with 13 kills on 45 attempts, hitting .222, and contributed 2 blocks.
  • Kamryn Briggs added 5 kills and 27 digs, leading the defense for Bakersfield.
  • Amber Dela Cruz provided solid defense with 18 digs and chipped in with a service ace.

Bakersfield fought hard but struggled to find an answer to Mt.Sac's balanced attack and strong defense. BC's blocking game was strong, with 2 block solos and 8 block assists, but it wasn't enough to overcome Mt. SAC's attack.

The Renegades wrapped up their final match of the day with a commanding 3-0 victory over El Camino, securing their first win of the season. Bakersfield dominated the match, winning in straight sets with scores of 25-11, 25-15, and 25-21.

Highlights:

  • Briggs led the offensive charge with 15 kills, hitting an impressive .412.
  • Yursik contributed 9 kills with a .360 hitting percentage.
  • Alexandra Watts was efficient, hitting .538 with 7 kills.
  • Dela Cruz showcased her serving skills, recording 4 service aces and leading the team with 18 digs.
  • Chloe Comstock was crucial in setting up the offense, dishing out 28 assists and contributing 8 digs.

BC's strong performance at the net and solid serving proved too much for the Warriors to handle. With this victory, Bakersfield ends the day on a high note, setting the stage for a promising season ahead.

The Renegades start the season with a 1-1 record and head out for several road matches before coming home to take on Santa Barbara City College on September 20th.
