For their first Big 8 Conference home game the Bear Cubs (9-4, 0-1) hosted the Vikings (3-11, 0-2) of Diablo Valley College. The Bear Cubs scored two field goals in the first minute—Kaia Eubanks' layup after one dribble from the low post and Ivy Gonzalez's 1-footer off of Eubanks' assist. Over a minute later Abena Yeboah's putback got the Vikings on the scoreboard. With 6:06 on the clock Te'Niyah Lindsey tied the score. On the Bear Cubs' next possession, Gonzalez dropped in a 6-foot pullup jumper. Lindsey tied the score at the 4:48 mark. The Bear Cubs only made two more shots—Hailey Webb's drive after grabbing an offensive rebound and Sydney Martin's reverse on a baseline inbounds pass from Webb—out of their final ten shots to end the quarter ahead 10-6.
Ivy Gonzalez scored the first point of the second quarter on one free throw 28 seconds in and then swished a 3-pointer after Kendall McClure drained one. Te'Niyah Lindsey's field goal cut the Bear Cubs' lead to 14-11. Following Kaia Eubanks' 10-footer off of Gonzalez's assist, McClure sank another 3-pointer. Eubanks was fouled on a shot attempt and made both free throws with 5:02 on the clock. Abena Yeboah's 1-footer closed the gap to 16-18 twelve seconds later. With 3:35 left Lindsey Arellano cut down the middle of the key, caught Sydney Martin's assist, and tossed in a 3-footer. After two Bear Cub misses, Martin banked in a 1-footer off of Arellano's long assist from the backcourt. Adrianna Surney scored the last point of the period for the Vikings with one free throw at the 1:20 mark. Cele Urzua completed the scoring with a left corner 3-pointer, giving the Bear Cubs a 25-17 advantage by halftime.
The Bear Cubs tallied the first eight points of the third quarter within 88 seconds on four free throws by Ivy Gonzalez, two by Cece Solano, and Gonzalez's fast break layup. The Vikings added their first two points on two free throws by Te'Niyah Lindsey at the 7:40 mark. Gonzalez sank a 16-footer, and about a minute later Kaia Eubanks drew a shooting foul and made one free throw, stretching their lead to 36-19. The Vikings made four more free throws before Abigail Tacla hit a 10-footer off of Eubanks' assist. Kendall McClure scored six unanswered points on a 3-point play and a 3-pointer with 2:30 on the clock to cut their deficit to 29-38. Fifty seconds later Ivy Gonzalez sank another 16-footer. With 1:24 left Lindsey drained a 3-pointer to close to 32-40. The Bear Cubs finished the period with three quick baskets in a row—Ivy Gonzalez's putback, Eubanks's 5-footer off of Natalie Royer's assist, and Gonzalez's drive—to widen their lead to 46-32.
Kaia Eubanks scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter on a 3-point play on a drive from the high post, a baseline drive, and a fast break layup off of Betzie Hernandez's assist. Natalie Royer swished an 18-footer from straight away with 6:46 on the clock, and 70 seconds later Hernandez made one free throw to stretch their lead to 56-32. Cece Solano sank a sweeping left-handed low post shot that started from the right side of the hoop. Te'Niyah Lindsey drained a 3-pointer at the 4:36 mark, and then Adrianna Surney intercepted a pass and banked in a layup. Solano scored again on a low post move, this time going from left to right. Kendall McClure's fourth 3-pointer of the contest completed the scoring for the Vikings with 2:43 left. Cele Urzua accounted for the Bear Cubs' final four points on a fast break layup and a drive down the right side, capping their 64-40 victory.
The Bear Cubs missed 40 shots in the first three quarters and only six in the fourth, which kept the game close until the last ten minutes. The Bear Cubs' defense held the Vikings to 26% shooting (13 out of 50), and limited their leading scorer, Tegan Gaines, to two points on free throws. Two Vikings reached double figures in scoring: Kendall McClure with 15 and Te'Niyah Lindsey with 14.
