The Citrus College Women's Soccer team defeated Norco College 4-2 in an exciting game that featured 34 shots combined by both teams.
Citrus College improves to 3-0-1 on the season while Norco College falls to 1-6-1 on the year.
The Owls came out firing as they took five shots in the first 15 minutes of play, one off the foot of Alexia Leon that rattled off the post. In the 15th minute Aubrianna Mejia scored her second goal of the season by launching a shot past the Mustangs goalkeeper to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. Juliana Gasca scored her first goal in the 21st minute, assisted by Jasmin (JD) Alvarado, giving the Owls a 2-0 lead at halftime.
At the start of the second half, the Mustangs found the back of the net in the 58th minute to make the score 2-1. Citrus responded quickly in the 64th minute when Aubrianna Mejia scored her second goal of the game on a beautiful shot from 25-yards out, over the Mustangs goalie to give the Owls a 3-1 lead.
Norco responded with a penalty kick goal in the in the 66th minute making the score 3-2 and lighting a fire in the Owls as the intensity picked up for the final 20 minutes of play.
In the 84th minute Alexia Leon floated a perfect shot over the Mustangs goalie to put the game out of reach as the Owls went up 4-2, which was the final score of the match.
Owls' goalie and last week's Citrus College Athlete of the Week, Liliana Miramontes recorded seven saves on the nine shots on goal she faces.
Citrus College will head to LA Valley College next Tuesday, October 1st to take on the Monarchs at 4 p.m.
