The MSJC volleyball team defeated Pasadena City College on Friday, but then dropped a match to Ventura when they participated in the PCC Tournament.
In the first match of the day against Pasadena City the Eagles looked dominant in the first two sets as they won easily 25-14 and 25-14, before the Lancers turned the tables in the third winning 13-25. MSJC regrouped and won the fourth in a tight set 25-23 to earn the victory. Megan Gajda led the offense with 14 kills while Josephine Springer knocked down 11, and Audrey Franks had 8. Gajda added a team high 12 digs whild Springer picked up 7 and Franks recorded 3 block assists. Setters Amari Ramirez and Kalia Anady both passed out 16 assists in the victory.
MSJC could not keep the momentum rolling though in their second match of the day as they were swept by Ventura 25-15, 25-14, and 25-18. Gajda again led in kills with 12, Hailey Frary was next for the Eagles with 6. Ramirez and Anady once again shared the setting duties and both dished out 11 assists. Brooklyn Jimenez had a team high 10 digs in the match and both Frary and Lorena Lopez had a solo block.
The Eagles are now 3-5 on the season and have 3 of their 4 matches this week at home. Tuesday MSJC will welcome Riverside to San Jacinto for a 5 pm match, Wednesday the Eagles host both San Diego Miramar and East Los Angeles. Wednesday's matches will be at noon and 4 pm. Friday the Eagles wrap the busy week with a trip to Santa Clarita where they will take on Canyons at 5 pm.
