The Bear Cubs' (7-3) opponent on Day 2 of the Golden Gate Classic were the Monarchs (5-7) of Los Angeles Valley College. The Monarchs put five points on the scoreboard before Sydney Martin dropped in a 5-footer off of Lindsey Arellano's assist. Hailey Webb made both of her free throws on their next trip down. After going scoreless for over three minutes, the Monarchs hit a close shot to stretch their lead to 7-4. Thirty-five seconds later Cece Solano caught the ball near to hoop, faked a shot, and pivoted around the defender to bank in the 2-footer. Laila Salazar made two field goals to give the Monarchs an 11-6 lead with 2:40 on the clock. The Bear Cubs had missed seven shots in a row before Lindsey Arellano drained a 3-pointer with 34 seconds left to pull within two at 9-11 by the end of the quarter.

The Bear Cubs scored the first six points of the second quarter in less than two minutes on Kaia Eubanks' 1-footer off of Sydney Martin's assist, Shasta Vlasak's putback, and Eubanks' low post move. Samantha Maldonado drew two consecutive shooting fouls and made three out of four free throws. The Bear Cubs added four more points on Ivy Gonzalez's putback and Cece Solano's shot from just above the free throw line to get their lead to 19-14 with 2:42 on the clock. The Monarchs finished the period with a 6-0 run to retake the lead 20-19 by halftime.

During the first three minutes of the third quarter the Monarchs sank two field goals, while the Bear Cubs missed all seven of their shot attempts. At the 6:50 mark Hailey Webb swished a 3-pointer, and then Vhenus Gaoa, too, drained one for the Monarchs. The Bear Cubs responded with a 6-0 run on Ivy Gonzalez's 2-footer off of Hailey Webb's assist, Shasta Vlasak's layup following a steal, and Gonzalez's 5-foot fade-away shot with 3:25 on the clock for a 28-27 margin. Laila Salazar made two field goals in a row to get the Monarchs ahead 31-28 with 2:03 left. Gonzalez's 18-footer 21 seconds later pulled the Bear Cubs within a point. Vhenus Gaoa's basket with 34 seconds remaining made their lead 33-30 by the end of the quarter.

The Monarchs increased their advantage to 35-30 49 seconds into the fourth quarter. The Bear Cubs edged ahead 36-35 on Kaia Eubanks' 1-footer off of Sydney Martin's baseline assist, two free throws by Martin, and Ivy Gonzalez's 19-footer at the 7:48 mark. The Monarchs answered with two field goals to retake the lead at 39-36 with 5:55 on the clock. Lindsey Arellano's 3-pointer 27 seconds later started a Bear Cub 12-2 run that included Martin's reverse layup, Gonzalez's 4-footer pullup jumper, two free throws by Martin, her 3-footer, and one free throw by Arellano, to finish off the game on their come-from-behind 48-41 victory.

The Bear Cubs were more evenly matched size-wise to the Monarchs, but they still had trouble scoring, except for during the fourth quarter, when they made 5 out of 11 shots (45%). Overall, though, the Bear Cubs only made 31% of their shots (19 out of 61) for the game. Defensively, the Bear Cubs held the Monarchs, who had been averaging over 62 points per game, to 18 out of 64 shots (28%). Two Monarchs scored in double figures: Vhenus Gaoa with 12 and Laila Salazar with 10.
