
The MSJC women's basketball team picked up two more wins this weekend at the Comet Crossover Tournament held at Palomar College.
Friday the Eagles jumped out to a 10-point lead after the opening quarter and pushed the advantage to twenty by halftime as they defeated East Los Angeles 88-63. Natalie Derla led the team in scoring with 22 points while both Drasoni Kyles and Princess McCauley added 16. Vika Afungia also reached double figures with 13 points and Kohen Marshall hauled in a game high eleven rebounds.
Saturday MSJC shook off a slow start to defeat Allan Hancock 70-46. The Eagles blew a close game open in the third quarter out scoring the Bulldogs 25-12 and closed it out with a 17-8 advantage in the final period. McCauley scored a team high eighteen points in the victory while Afungia added eleven off the bench. Trinity Skinner also reached double figures in scoring with10 points and Marshall once again led on the glass with 13 rebounds.
The Eagles improved to 4-0 with the wins and will take on a pair of top 10 ranked teams this week. Wednesday MSJC is on the road at two-time defending state champions Orange Coast and Saturday the Eagles host perennial state power Mt. SAC home. Both games this week are scheduled to tip-off at 5 pm.
