No. 2-ranked Riverside City College took third place at the SoCal Regional after dropping a tight, 8-7 loss to No. 3-ranked Santa Barbara City College in the morning and powering through a 13-8 victory over No. 8-ranked Saddleback College.
The Tigers improve to 29-4 as they head to the 3C2A State Championship next week, while the Vaqueros went on to take second in the regional and boast a 30-6 overall record. The Bobcats sit at 20-13 on the year.
Against SBCC, Riverside saw two goals apiece from Nicole Robertson, Clare Baty and Yosra Elseifi, while Chandler Burrell also got in on the scoring action.
It all came down to the final eight minutes of the game as RCC and SBCC were even at 6-6. The Vaqueros scored two goals but Burrell put the Tigers within one with less than 30 seconds led. Time expired before Riverside could find the back of the cage again.
With the loss, RCC headed to the third-place game against Saddleback, marking the Tigers' fifth time playing the Bobcats this season.
Robertson led the Tigers with four goals, while Burrell and Abigail Ruiz each capitalized three times. Annabella Storar scored twice and Samantha Thomas also had a goal.
Riverside scored first off a Robertson goal and never looked back.
Sofia Mather finished with 19 saves over the two games, including 12 against Santa Barbara.
