The MSJC men's tennis team has shown some fight so far this season and after a busy couple of weeks stand at 4-7 overall on the season and 3-4 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference matches.
The Eagles lost to perennial state power College of the Desert 5-3, but there were some bright spots. The doubles team of Anthony Torres-Martinez and Benjamin Taylor won 9-8 while in singles Michael Masarani won at #1 6-4 and 6-3 and Chad Hayes won at #5 6-0, 6-2. MSJC had another tough match at San Diego City where they lost 8-1, but Hayes stayed hot as he won his #4 singles match 7-5 and 6-2.
The Eagles earned a 7-2 win on the road when they traveled to Imperial Valley. All three doubles teams picked up wins as Masarani and Torres-Martinez won 8-2, Justin Atas and Hayes won 8-4, and Taylor and Anthony Walmer won 8-0. Hayes was among the singles winners for the Eagles as he improved to 9-1 on the season. In MSJC's home match against Mt. SAC the Eagles lost 6-1 with the last couple of matches being stopped due to rain. The bright spot on the day was at #1 doubles where Masarani and Torres-Martinez picked up a big win over a very strong duo for Mounties.
The team is back in action today (Mar. 12th) as they travel to Victor Valley for a 2 pm match. The Eagles next home match is Friday when they host Glendale College in a 1 pm contest.
