Eagles Win on Sophomore Day

The MSJC women's soccer team celebrated their 2024 sophomores on Tuesday night at HCN Bank Stadium and came away with a 1-0 victory over Norco College.

The Eagles and the Mustangs were in a scoreless battle for 90 minutes before Haylee Chilton finally scored a goal on an assist from Nathali Gasca in extra time to give MSJC the win. Ashlyn Goade and Daisy Reyes combined for the shutout in goal.

MSJC was coming off a win last Friday night at home when they defeated Victor Valley 3-0. In that match, the Eagles got off to a fast start when Marlene Mateo scored an unassisted goal in the 4th minute of action. Emely Sanchez scored with an assist from Leilani Aves in the 41st minute to push the Eagle advantage to 2-0. MSJC would tack on one more goal just before halftime when Aves scored a goal of her own on an assist from Stephanie Kenner. Goade and Reyes again combined to shut out their opponent as each played 45 minutes in goal.

The two wins improve the MSJC's overall record on the season to 9-5-5, they are 5-3 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference matches. MSJC has two road contests left on their season schedule. The Eagles will travel to Chaffey on Friday and then wrap up conference play with a trip to San Bernardino Valley on Tuesday, November 5th.
