No. 8 Palomar Rallies in Fourth Quarter to Defeat No. 9 Mt. San Jacinto

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/27/2024) -- The No. 8-ranked Palomar College women's basketball team delivered an electrifying 81-78 comeback win over No. 9 Mt. San Jacinto College in the Dome on Wednesday night. The Comets stormed back with a massive 32-point fourth quarter to stun their highly ranked opponent in one of the most exciting games of the season.

Brooke Quintana was the heart of the victory, not only leading the team with a career-high 30 points but also making her presence felt defensively. Quintana took five charges during key moments of the game, shifting momentum and halting Mt. San Jacinto's offensive runs. She also added five assists and three steals, showcasing her all-around impact. Her clutch performance at the free-throw line, where she went 7-of-9, helped seal the dramatic win.

Kylee Trujillo was instrumental in the comeback, scoring 20 points with three three-pointers and five steals, adding grit and energy to both ends of the floor. Angeline Valdivia came off the bench to chip in nine points and pull down four rebounds, while Angelina De Leon added seven points and contributed defensively with three steals.

The game was a testament to Palomar's resilience. Despite trailing by nine points heading into the final period and being outscored 42-34 in the paint, the Comets relied on relentless defense and tenacity. They forced 33 turnovers, converting them into 35 points, and shot 55% from the field in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.

With the win, Palomar improves to 5-1 on the season. The Comets now turn their focus to the Charger Classic at Cypress College this weekend, where they will open play against Reedley College on Friday night.
