The Marauders led most of the way but found themselves down 7-6 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning. A Couple of RBI doubles from Chisum Demmers and Aidan Jbara tied it 8-8 to start the 8th inning. Cody Turner then came through with a monster solo home run over the right-field fence to give AVC the lead. The Palmdale native has the highest batting average in the Western State South Conference at .480 and leads the conference in RBIs with 47. Trey Thomas (35) and Aidan Jbara (32) are also in the Top-5 for runs batted in. Turner and Thomas share the home run lead for the Marauders with 5 each as the team ranks 5th in overall hitting in the state.
Braydan Salinas added a sacrifice fly in the inning to give AVC a 10-8 lead. The Marauders needed just three outs to end the game, but they gave up two runs in the ninth inning. With a runner in scoring position, West LA's defense forced an extra inning. Tied 10-10 in the bottom of the 10th, Lucas Martinez singled and advanced to second on an error. Braydan Salinas came through again in the clutch with a walk-off RBI single to win it. He finished with a hit and 2 RBI. Cody Turner finished with 2 hits and 3 RBI, while Aidan Jbara went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Chisum Demmers had 2 hits and an RBI. Jason Zhang (2) and Keon Moseni also recorded runs batted in.
Derek Ames (2 innings, 3 Ks), Dylan Whiteman (2 innings, 2 Ks), Nathan Van Dooren (4 innings, 2 Ks), and Trey Thomas (1 inning, 1 K) all saw work on the mound with Thomas getting the win.
The Marauders are now 15-12 overall and have won four straight, five of their last six contests. Game 2 of the series is at West LA on Thursday, followed by Game 3 back at AVC on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
