Owls Take Down Eagles in First Game of 2025

The Citrus College women's basketball team opened 2025 with an 87–57 win over LA mission College last night to round out non-conference play.
Citrus College improves to 9-5 on the season while LA Mission College goes to 8-8 on the season.
The Owls followed up a strong first quarter with an even stronger second quarter, going on a 9-0 run midway through the quarter to go ahead by 15 points. At halftime Citrus held a 45-24 lead.
The Owls put up 29 points in the third quarter while their defense held the Eagles to only 11 points. Citrus found continued success in the fourth quarter to close out the game, holding a 41-point lead early in the fourth quarter which was much for the Eagles to overcome.
Citrus College went 12-of-33 from three-point range while shooting 46.1% from the field while holding LA Mission to 37.9% from the field and 31.6% from three. The Owls' defense was on full display last night as they forced 20 turnovers, scoring 25 points off turnovers while outscoring the Eagles 36-10 in points in the paint. The Owls' bench outscored the Eagles bench 30-2 while also outscoring the Eagles in fast break points 16-2.
The Owls were led by an impressive performance from Breanna Escobedo who scored 24 points while going 9-of-13 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range. Escobedo added a game-high eight assists with three rebounds, three steals and one block. Leilani Argueta scored 13 points, hitting 3-of-7 three-pointers while adding five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Kristin Morella came off the bench with 16 points, three assists and two steals, while Deija Mitchell led the Owls in rebounds with 10.
Citrus College will begin conference play this Wednesday, January 8th at home against LA Valley College, tip-off is at 5 p.m.
