Mustangs Open Season with Two Wins  

The Mustangs traveled to Hartnell College in Salinas to open the season against two state playoff teams from last year, Hartnell and Solano College. The Mustangs opened strong against Hartnell winning the match 3-0 (25-25, 25-20, 25-10). Naila la led the team in kills with 11 followed by Emily Vickers with 10 kills.  Setter Caprisa Brock had 24 assists.  Libero Kyra Saiers led the team in digs with 14 followed by Annysa Arroyo with 8. Middle blocker Mia Alomia had 6 blocks. 

In the second match of the day the Mustangs faced a scrappy Solano team who refused to let anything hit the floor. After a hard-fought battle, the Mustangs prevailed 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-11,15-8). The Mustangs were again led by Naila la with 25 kills, followed by Emily Vickers with 12 and McKinley King with 10.  Emily Vickers also led the team in digs with 26 followed by Kyra Saiers with 21. Setter Caprisa Brock had 45 assists.  Defensive specialist Cat Frias had 4 service aces. 

The Mustangs travel to Fresno on Friday and Saturday, August 30th and 31st to face four top teams from Southern California in the first-ever NorCal v SoCal Showdown being held at Fresno City College.  The first match is on Friday at 11:00 am against Bakersfield College.  The Mustangs will also face Pasadena City, Cypress, and Grossmont College.  The Mustang's first home match will be on September 5th when they host the Delta Classic.
