Owls Sail Past Corsairs

Citrus College Women's Basketball defeated Santa Monica College 72-51 yesterday, Saturday, January 18th in an away conference matchup. 

Citrus College improves to 12-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Santa Monica College goes to 4-10 overall on the year and 0-3 in conference games. 

The Owls trailed 23-11 after the first quarter before outscoring the Corsairs in the second, third and fourth quarters. Citrus College shot 37.3% from the field while going 7-of-36 from three-point range. Although the Owls struggled shooting, their defense stepped up, forcing 32 turnovers, and only allowing Santa Monica College to shoot 34.4% from the field and 1-of-12 from three. Citrus College scored 35 points off turnovers and outscored Santa Monica College 28-8 in bench points. 

Kristin Morella scored 25 points off the bench and added a season-high eight steals, four rebounds and three assists. Jolleen Olia had 15 points on 7-of-12 from the field while adding five steals, four rebounds and two steals. Breanna Escobedo scored 10 points, had nine rebounds, three steals and one assist. Leilani Argueta led the Owls with 10 rebounds, adding nine points and five assists while Kaylana Viray scored seven points with five assists, five rebounds and two steals. 

Citrus College will matchup with Bakersfield College on the road this Wednesday, January 22nd for a conference matchup at 5 p.m.
