
Palomar Shines in Home Opener Against Allan Hancock at Comet Classic Crossover
SAN MARCOS, CA (11/15/2024) -- The Palomar College women's basketball team thrilled the home crowd in their season opener, dominating Allan Hancock College 82-44 on the first day of the annual Comet Classic Crossover event. The win showcased Palomar's depth, energy, and commanding presence on both ends of the court.
Kailani Flournoy led the Comets with a stellar 20-point performance, grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double. Teanna Alaman added 14 points and seven rebounds, demonstrating her efficiency by hitting six of eight field goal attempts. Nevaeh Mageo contributed 12 points, all from behind the arc, while Angelina De Leon pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to anchor the defense.
Palomar's dominance was evident in the paint, where they scored an impressive 50 points compared to Allan Hancock's 14. The Comets also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, converting 22 points off offensive rebounds. Their bench added 31 points, underscoring the team's depth and versatility.
The Comets took control early, building a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Their defense stifled Allan Hancock, holding them to just 24% shooting for the game and forcing 18 turnovers.
With this decisive win, Palomar improves to 3-1 on the season and looks ahead to continuing their momentum in day two of the Comet Classic.
