Palomar Rebounds with Dominant Victory Over College of the Canyons

After dropping back-to-back games to two top-ten teams in the Moorpark North/South Crossover, the Palomar College women's basketball team delivered an emphatic response, cruising to an 86-36 win over College of the Canyons on Saturday night. The victory showcased the Comets' depth, defense, and offensive efficiency as they improved to 8-5 on the season.

Nevaeh Mageo was unstoppable, leading all scorers with 22 points, including six three-pointers. Her sharp shooting sparked a dominant offensive performance that saw Palomar score 50 points in the paint and 29 off turnovers. Mageo also contributed on the defensive end, adding a steal to her stat line.

The Comets' balanced attack featured double-digit scoring from four starters. Kailani Flournoy posted a strong performance with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Brooke Quintana added 11 points and dished out eight assists. Kylee Trujillo contributed 11 points and provided defensive energy with four steals. Angelina De Leon and Teanna Alaman combined for 17 points and 18 rebounds, ensuring Palomar controlled the boards throughout the game.

Palomar's defense was relentless, holding Canyons to just 27.1% shooting from the field and forcing 25 turnovers. The Comets capitalized on these opportunities, outscoring their opponent 29-3 in points off turnovers and adding 16 second-chance points.

The Comets seized control early, building a 23-10 lead in the first quarter and never looking back. They shot 42.9% for the game, including a blistering 52.4% in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.

Next up, Palomar will wrap up its non-conference schedule with a road game against Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday, Jan. 4. With momentum from their dominant performance, the Comets aim to close out their non-conference slate on a high note.
