Riverside City College took on a ranked foe for the second straight game Friday night. The Tigers took it to the wire with No. 10-ranked Santiago Canyon College but couldn't overcome the Hawks in a 59-54 loss.
RCC drops to 11-9 overall and 3-4 in Orange Empire Conference action, while Santiago Canyon improves to 16-4 on the year, 6-1 in conference.
Deacon Toliver led the Tigers with 13 points (5-for-7), while Christian Warren added 10 points (3-for-15). The pair also led Riverside's rebounding effort with Warren grabbing 16 boards and Toliver snatching 15 rebounds.
Neither team shot particularly well – RCC boasted a 32.8 shooting percentage, while SCC was shooting at a 29.5 clip – but turnovers ultimately were the thorn in the Tigers' side. Riverside finished with 19 turnovers, which led to 17 points for the Hawks.
The Tigers look to bounce back next week as they start the second half of the season. Riverside hosts Santa Ana College on Wednesday, hoping to sweep the series after taking the first matchup on the road.
